Q: Is my condom too big or too small?

Q: Is my condom too big or too small?

2 minute read

Q: My boyfriend’s endowment is below average in both length and girth. I purchased a variety pack of “snugger fit” condoms but the two different brands we’ve tried cannot roll all the way to the base of his penis and stay there...

(cont.) they roll back up about an inch below the head, where they would be both irritating to me and ineffective. Is this happening because they are too long and cannot unroll all the way or is his penis (at least at the base) too large for these smaller condoms?

The most important effect of this situation is that he and I have been unable to have intercourse. HELP!!!!!!

A: Penises come in all shapes and sizes-- and all lengths and girths. It sounds like your boyfriend’s condoms are definitely too long. But if they’re from our Snugger Fit Sampler, chances are that we don’t have many condoms that are shorter in length but wider at the base.

The Right Condom Size Matters

My first suggestion to you would be to measure your man and then check out our Condom Size Chart. This is going to give you a plethora of better options than me trying to guess what size would fit him best-- I know you said that he was below average in both length and girth, but then you seemed to indicate that he might be too big for our snugger fits, so I think placing your boyfriend somewhere on the chart might be a better way to figure it out. Also, the width measurements you’ll see on the chart are measured at the base, or as we call it, the nominal width.

If these condoms feel super tight on him, chances are, they are probably too small, at least in girth. If you have to compromise on girth or length comfort, we strongly recommend going for girth. Length is important, yes, but rolling the condom up a little at the base shouldn't be as uncomfortable for him as going with a few sizes smaller. Again, we can't really make an informed judgement call on this without knowing what his measurements are.
