Erectile Dysfunction: Is the Body or the Brain to Blame?
Aren’t sure what’s causing erectile dysfunction, how-to overcome it or the best ways to please your partner while experiencing ED?
Testing for Erectile Dysfunction
When it comes to impotence, how can one determine if it's the body or the brain to blame? Believe it or not, a simple, home diagnosis can hold the key to understanding where ED is coming from.
Morning wood occurs because testosterone is stored up throughout the night as a means of preparing for the next day’s activities. The result is a bulge in the boxer shorts upon waking. But, morning wood is more than just a pants tent. It’s perfectly normal and is an indicator of the proper functionality of the erectile tissues in the penis.
If all physical reproductive systems are in working order, erections naturally pop up first thing in the morning. If there is a medical problem present, such as low testosterone levels, erections will not occur in the morning.
An old wives' tale involves tying a strip of paper around the flaccid penis while the allegedly impotent husband is asleep. If the paper ring stays intact throughout the night, the impotence is likely to be physical. If the paper rips from swelling of the shaft, the impotence she is experiencing with her partner is psychological.
This experiment is simple enough for anyone to try on their own, or with the help of a willing partner. Simply tie a thin strip of loose-leaf paper around the shaft and see if it remains intact or breaks by morning. Just don't tie it so tightly that it's uncomfortable or restricting blood flow during slumber.
But, of course, this is meant to be a guideline, not a medical diagnosis. A complete physical and/or examination by a medical professional may be the best or only means of determining any hidden underlying factors contributing to ED.
